What goes Where??
We had a neat suggestion over on the Message Board about Uniforms......What goes where?? I thought it was a neat idea, but it took longer than expected to get all the images together. You see, with the exception of the Beaver Colony, all the Uniforms are the same, but different.
For Example: Different Epaulettes----Different Sash colors, and sometimes NO sash at all----Different Merit Badges, etc. etc.
This is our Group Neckard or Scarf. The colors are truly our own, or our trademark as it were. There is never any duplications-----It's kind of like the Scottish Clans, all represented by their family tartans.
Note the Group Crest on the back. Our Sponsor: The Mount Albert United Church.
Let's start with the Beaver Section:
The Beaver vest comes with the World Scout Badge and the Scouts Canada Flag Strip already attached when you get one from the Scout Shop.
The ONLY crests that are to be sewn on are as follows:
Group: Mount Albert
Area or District: South Lake Simcoe
Council or Region: Shining Waters
Provincial Crest.
Service Bars: Each white bar represents a year of Membership and can be accumulated as the Youth moves through the sections.
The different colored Tails are sewn or pinned on the back of the hat depending on their age. For Example:
Brown Tail-----5 Year old
Blue Tail ------6 Year old
White Tail------7 Year old.
NO other crests are to be sewn anywhere on the Beaver Uniform. On occasion, crests are provided to the Youth when they attend a Camp or major event. Sew these onto a "Campfire Blanket" or keep them as you wish.
Cub Section:
The Cub Uniform is the same as the Leaders uniform except they wear a red sash with yellow borders to display their merit badges they earn. The World Scout Badge and the Scouts Canada Flag Strip are on the shirt when purchased from the Scout Shop.
The Official Cub Uniform consists of the following:
Scouts Canada Shirt
Group Neckard of Scarf
Woggle
Sash
2 Epaulettes worn on shoulder straps
Scouts Canada Belt and Buckle.
Any official Awards or Special Events crests as received.
NO other crests are to be sewn onto the shirt or sash.
Scout Section:
Again, the Scout Section wears a Uniform that is the same as their Leaders except for the Sash. The Scout Sash is red with green borders, and is used to display Merit Badges. The World Scout Badge and the Scouts Canada Flag Strip are on the shirt when purchased from the Scout Shop.
Note how there is now more Awards that can now be sewn on different parts of the Uniform other than the sash.
Chief Scout, and Voyager Scout Awards are sewn to the left arm as shown.
The Official Scout Uniform consists of the following:
Scouts Canada Shirt
Group Neckard or Scarf
Woggle
Sash
2 Epaulettes worn on shoulder straps
Scouts Canada Belt and Buckle
Any Official Awards or Special Events crests as received.
Service Bars--Yellow = 5 years, White = 1 year.
NO other crests are to be sewn onto the shirt or sash.
Venturer and Rover Sections COMING SOON!!
Adult Scout Leaders:
The same but a little different. There are some things on a Adult Leaders Uniform you will not see on a Youth Section Member, and visa-versa. The Shirt is the same....The World Scouting Badge and the Scouts Canada Flag Strip is on the shirt when it is purchased from the Scout Shop.
Note there is NO sash.
The Official Leaders Uniform consists of the following:
Scouts Canada Shirt.
Group Neckard or Scarf
Woggle
2 Section Epaulettes worn on shoulder straps
BEAVER LEADERS NOTE--Colony Epaulettes are the only type that have a left and right. All other Sections can be worn either way. The correct way to wear your Colony Epaulettes is so the Beaver is facing forward.
Service Bars--Yellow = 5 years, White = 1 year. Navy blue pants or shorts are also part of the Official Uniform.
There are some other interesting things you might notice that are worn on a Leaders Uniform. If you look closely the next time, you might see some of them:
This is a Canadian Centennial Crest that was issued in 1967 by the then named Boy Scouts of Canada. Only Members who were registered in that year were allowed to, and still can wear that Crest. We have 2 Adult Leaders in Mount Albert who wear this Crest, can you name them??
This is a Woodbadge Woggle that is worn only by Adult Leaders who have completed their Woodbadge Part 1 (Basic) Training. Woodbadge Part 1's are completed in a weekend course offered by the Area. The Training is for Leaders only, and you are awarded your Woggle after completing approx. 20 hours of Training. There are Woodbadge courses offered for each Section, as well as other important Service positions required by each Group.
These items, the Gilwell Neckard, and the leather thong with wooden beads, are worn only by Adult Members who have completed their Woodbadge Part 2, or Advanced Training. This type of training is offered both, by Council and Areas. The training again, is for Leaders only, and you are awarded your Beads, a Parchment and Neckard after completing an additional 60 hours of learning. Part 2's are offered for each Section as well as the Group Service Positions.
Once a Scouter completes their Part 2, ( One heck of a commitment I might add ) they are forever known to the Scouting Community as Members of the Lord Robert Baden Powell 1st Gilwell Scout Troop. An Honor which has been awarded to literally thousands of devoted Adult Leaders since Scouting first came to be. This is our Woodbadge, but it is also a symbol to you--The Parents of the Youth Members in our care, that we have learned the necessary steps to ensure a quality Program is offered to your Kids. For we view them as the Leaders of tomorrow, and always will.

The 1st Mount Albert Scout Group currently has 4 Adult Members that are members of Gilwell, can you name them??
Just above the right front shirt pocket is a place reserved for these.
It's hard to describe to someone not involved, but these are not something a Scouter works toward, for they are awarded after a recommendation from your Scouting peers. Many, many hours of volunteer work go into receiving ANY one of these. A small emblem representing the Honor or Award the Scouter received is worn above that shirt pocket. The Medals that are presented are worn usually during special or appropriate occasions, and are not usually worn during regular meeting nights.
We have 3 Leaders here in town who have been decorated. Two received the Medal for Good Service, and one received the Medal of Merit. Can you name the 3 Leaders? Need a hint? CLICK HERE
You will notice some are for higher levels that go well beyond our "Hour a Week". Honors for Gallantry, High Character and Courage are awarded yearly by the Chief Scout of Canada, the Governor General.
