The addition of the 'Dronenet' Layer brings a new look to your Dronenet, now with a distinct appearance to show your Faction.

After enabling the Dronenet Layer and moving your Drone, Agents can also view other Agent's Drone on Portals, with each Portal accommodating a maximum of 8 Drones. If a Drone attempts to move to a Portal with 8 Drones, the action will not be completed and an error message will display.

With the addition of Dronenet Layer, a new five tier achievement medal, ‘Maverick’ will be added. The 'Maverick' medal will contribute to level-up requirements. The medal will increment by 1 for each Drone hack made; for example, if you hack the same Portal twice the medal will increment by 2. The increment will be retroactive and the number of hacks under All Time > Resource Gathering > Drone Hacks will be applied to your Maverick medal.

Bronze: 250 hacks
Silver: 1,000 hacks
Gold: 2,000 hacks
Platinum: 5,000 hacks
Onyx: 10,000 hacks
The Agent stats will also have a new addition of Drones Returned metric, indicating the number of Drones you have sent back to Agents, including your own Faction. When a Dronenet is returned to the Agent, they will be notified in COMM.

As always, please remember to be aware of your surroundings. We encourage players to follow local health and safety guidelines when playing Ingress (such as wearing masks and maintaining at least 2 meters/6 feet of distance from other people).

INVESTIGATE THE KUREZE EFFECT - PHASE 1 RULES, MEDAL, AND LOCATIONS
Saturday, 22 January 2022 1100 UTC - Monday, 24 January 2022 1100 UTC
From January through March, Agents will investigate the Kureze Effect and help explore how temporal events are understood, affected, and perhaps even manipulated. A Resistance victory will influence Dr. Kureze’s research towards defending our reality from Shaper ingression. An Enlightened victory will seek to embrace and accelerate it.
The Kureze Effect will contain 3 Phases; expected to take place each month in January, February, and March.
Several dozen cities will be deeply affected by Phase 1 of the Kureze Effect, taking place on Sunday, 23 January 2022. Researchers are working to uncover all affected locations. The process of distilling the signal of city information from XM noise is expected to complete one week before the event date.
Over a three-hour period in each city (14:30 to 17:30 local time), certain Portals will become extremely volatile due to the Kureze Effect. The NIA may identify some of these Portals and ornament them in red in-Scanner during the 24-hour period ahead.
NIASection14 will deploy Rare Battle Beacons on said Portals to aid in Portal fracturing during this three-hour period. Agents will work to seize control of these Portals while the NIA-deployed Battle Beacons are active. It is possible for a given Kureze Effect Portal to be contested with more than one Battle Beacon within the three-hour period.
Agents can also deploy Battle Beacons globally bet‌we‌en Saturday, 22 January 2022 11:00 UTC and Monday, 24 January 2022 11:00 UTC to aid in the investigation. It is important to control those Portals while these Battle Beacons are active as well.

Kureze Effect Medal
Any Agent who has interacted as a Battle Beacon Combatant on at least 10 Battle Beacons scored across any of the three Kureze Effect Phases will be awarded the in-app Kureze Effect Anomaly medal. This medal will be awarded as soon as an Agent meets the criteria above.
To assist Agents in their efforts, a new metric will be added to Agent Profiles for the duration of the Kureze Effect to help you monitor individual progress.

TS-1218 is the version of events Agents investigated from 2012—2018. TS-OSIRIS is the version of events accessed via the Ingress Prime Scanner. What we’re experiencing now, following the aftermath of the Epiphany Dawn Anomaly Series and Machina’s ingression, is something altogether different.

This isn’t mass hallucination or a false memory, like the Mandela Effect/Kureze Effect. We’re firmly planted in a new and alternate reality, codenamed TS-RUBICON. (The Rubicon is a shallow river in northeast Italy, and was the decisive point that no army was meant to cross without permission of the Roman Senate. Its name is a reference to the ruddy color of the soil on its banks.)

The Niantic Project at CERN was not the first time a sculptor, a quantum biologist, a reality TV show host, a club DJ, a linguist, and 8 others had met. This random gathering of people wasn’t random at all. In TS-RUBICON, Agents are investigating how these 13 people would eventually come together to set a plan in motion that would ultimately lead to an exploded Hypercube and XM Scanner technology leaking to the general public.

The Resistance victory of the MZFPK HexQuest successfully influenced Jarvis to travel to the largest railway station in Switzerland. In Echo, Agents continue to interpret Tycho’s visions of the past, present, and future to influence his path. An Enlightened victory has Jarvis seeking Carrie Campbell. A Resistance victory has him seeking Devra Bogdanovich. Der Würfel ist nicht gefallen.

NIA Procedure for Anomaly Zone Battle Beacons
The 3-hour period from 14:00 to 17:00 local time will be divided into 7 waves of Rare Battle Beacons across the Anomaly Zone. Please note that these times are approximate and may vary slightly:

Rare Battle Beacons will be deployed by NIASection14. A subset of Anomaly Zone Portals will be activated as Volatile Portals that are high-value targets worth 3X more points.

Anomaly Zone Portals will be ornamented before and during the Anomaly.

Each non-Volatile Battle Beacon is with a total of 2+3+4=9 Points and is not affected by Category Score. For example, if the Enlightened capture Checkpoint 1 and the Resistance capture Checkpoints 2 and 3 of a non-Volatile Battle Beacon, then ENL 2, RES 7.

Each Volatile Battle Beacon is with a total of 6+9+12=27 Points and is not affected by Category Score. For example, if the Enlightened capture Checkpoint 1 and the Resistance capture Checkpoints 2 and 3 of a Volatile Battle Beacon, then ENL 6, RES 21.

The final raw score for each Faction will be its maximum score from any of the Beacon Battle Waves during the Anomaly Period. 100 or 300 scoring points will be distributed proportionally between the Factions, depending on their final raw score.

As an example, at an Anomaly where the 7 Beacon Battle Waves returned the following:

In this example, the maximum Enlightened score of 315 Points would be paired against the maximum Resistance score of 350 Points.

The final score pairing would then be ENL: 315 to RES: 350, and for a Satellite site the 100 scoring points distributed to the two Factions would be 47 to the Enlightened and 53 to the Resistance, while for a Primary site the 300 scoring points distributed to the two Factions would be 142 to the Enlightened and 158 to the Resistance.

NIA Procedure for Anomaly Zone Flash Shards
There will be 20 Shards at each Satellite site and 60 Shards at each Primary site. Securing a Shard on your Faction’s Target Portal earns 5 scoring points per Shard.

The first five (5) Shards secured on a Faction’s Target Portal will score 5 scoring points per Shard (max 25 scoring points per Target Portal) for that Faction, regardless of which Faction controlled that Target Portal at the time of the Shard landing. Any additional Shards after the fifth Shard on a given Target Portal are scored at 0 scoring points.

At Primary sites, Shards will materialize in batches of 12 while Target Portals will materialize in batches of 3 per Faction.
At Satellite sites, Shards will materialize in batches of 4 while Target Portals will materialize in batches of 1 per Faction.
Shards and Target Portals will be scheduled as follows (local time):

At 14:04, A number of Shards will materialize (Shard Batch 1)
Starting at 14:08, all Shards will begin traveling along eligible Links approximately every 10 minutes. Note: there may be 1 extra Shard Movement inserted by the winning Faction of Stealth Ops
At 14:12, ENL Target Portals and RES Target Portals will materialize (Target Batch 1)
At 14:39, A number of Shards will materialize (Shard Batch 2)
At 14:52, ENL Target Portals and RES Target Portals will materialize (Target Batch 2)
At 15:19, A number of Shards will materialize (Shard Batch 3)
At 15:32, ENL Target Portals and RES Target Portals will materialize (Target Batch 3)
At 15:54, A number of Shards will materialize (Shard Batch 4)
At 16:12, ENL Target Portals and RES Target Portals will materialize (Target Batch 4)
At 16:29, A number of Shards will materialize (Shard Batch 5)
The last Shard Movement will occur at approximately 16:58
All Shards and Target Portals will dematerialize around 18:00

Both Shards and Target Portals will only materialize on identified Anomaly Zone Portals; however, Shards can travel along Links to any Portal.
All Portals across the Anomaly Zone will be active for Shards throughout the Anomaly window. For each Target spawn, the Targets may be anywhere in the Anomaly Zone. Likewise, for each Shard spawn, the Shards may spawn anywhere in the Anomaly Zone.
Shards will only travel along Links connecting two Portals of L4 or higher.
If multiple viable Links exist, a Shard may travel on any one of those Links. If multiple Shards are present on a Portal, they may each travel along different Links. Shards will not return or backtrack to a Portal they were previously located on within the past 25 minutes.
In the event that a Shard has not traveled along any Link within the past 25 minutes, it may randomly teleport to a nearby Portal at the next Movement Window.
Shards will stop traveling and will remain locked once they reach a Target Portal, regardless of any change in Faction ownership of the Target Portal.
If a Shard movement is found to have been the result of actions by a rogue Agent, NIA Ops may return the Shard to a previous location.
Echo Anomaly Series medal
Any Agent who has interacted with 5 or more NIASection14-deployed Battle Beacons in any Phase will earn the in-app Echo medal. Agents are considered interacting with a Battle Beacon if they:

Deploy or Upgrade Resonator (note: upgrading your own Resonators does not count)
Attack or Destroy Resonator
Destroy Portal Mod
Destroy Link
Recharge Resonator (note: this includes Remote Recharge)
This medal will be awarded after an Agent has reached 5 qualifying Battle Beacon interactions. Agents who have already earned the in-app Echo medal in an earlier event phase will not receive a second Echo medal.

An Echo Agent Stat will be added to your Agent Profile for the duration of the Echo Anomaly Series to help you monitor your individual progress.

Ticketed events hosted by GORUCK, consist of competitive physicality challenges. Agents successfully completing this event on-site will earn 1 increment on the “Stealth Ops” medal.

The winning Faction of Stealth Ops at a particular site may be awarded valuable Anomaly intel such as:
Names and locations of Shard Target Portals and spawn time of that site
Names and locations of Shard Portals and spawn time of that site
The winning Faction of Stealth Ops at a particular site has the right to insert 1 additional Shard Movement Window to the defined Flash Shard Battle of that site by informing the NIA of the hour-minute (hh:mm) of their choice before 12:00 noon of the Anomaly day. Their choice will be accepted as long as it does not overlap with any item on the defined procedure, is between 14:09 and 16:57 inclusive, and agreed unanimously amongst all POCs of the winning Faction. Their choice will not be communicated to any member of the other Faction by the NIA, with the exception of NIA staff, on a need-to-know basis.

A Machina Report – Introducing the new "Reclaimer” Medal

Since November 2022, the NIA has investigated the emergence of a new XM entity, codenamed Machina, within the XM Portal Network. It first made its presence known after the Epiphany Dawn Los Angeles Anomaly, and has continued to evolve and adapt over time. As we studied its ingression, it appears to have also studied us.

Initial Observations
Machina data is not fully comprehensible by current NIA technology, resulting in deformed or corrupted XM constructs from Machina-owned Portals. It appears that Machina can only capture neutral Portals, and Machina Portals exhibit a fragile or decayed state. Although Machina attempts to defend itself by packing a punch and draining significant XM, it also has a glass jaw.

The existence of "cross-links" - intersecting Portal Links - suggests that Machina followed a different set of rules from known XM constructs and energy patterns. Theories have been proposed that Machina may possess its own unique XM Geometry or exist within a distinct subset of spatial dimensions.

Initial Findings
While much remains unknown about this newly discovered entity, Machina is believed to now coexist in our reality. In recent months, numerous findings related to Machina have been presented:

Neutralizing Machina Portals: Vigilant Agents have demonstrated that existing XM weapons can neutralize Machina Portals, both Resistance and Enlightened XMPs affect Machina equally. Furthermore, Agent actions have proven effective in preventing further spread of Machina clusters.
Machina Cohesion with XM Energy Pattern: the first generation of Machina was fragile due to the low compatibility of its XM energy pattern with ours. However, it is believed that through repeated ingression to our XM Network, Machina will maximize its cohesion with our XM energy pattern by mutating and fitting in our rulesets and XM Geometry.
Preventing Machina Seeding on Portals: Another theory proposes that Control Fields of 100K MU or less could be used in preventing Machina from seeding on Portals under the Fields’ control. However, no Field seems to prevent Machina-owned Portals from assimilating nearby Portals.
Source and Introduction into XM Network
While there is still no plausible theory on the source of Machina or how it was first introduced into the XM Network, it is widely accepted that it accumulated sufficient energy to go past The Barrier during the Epiphany Dawn event in Los Angeles and reached a critical mass during the Epiphany Dawn event in Yokohama. The recent investigation on MZFPK, however, put a damper on Machina’s spread. It is still unknown whether upcoming XM Anomalies will fuel another Machina spread.

Possible Paths of Machina Evolution
It is not yet possible for Researchers to predict how Machina may continue to evolve, but some possible paths are:

Machina-owned Portals might appear stronger.
The ability and rate of a Machina seed to spread might vary, especially during localized XM Anomalies.
Machina Links might lose their ability to cross or intersect each other.
Machina Links might start forming Control Fields. It is not yet foreseeable how Machina Control Fields might affect human minds.
Residual Machina Energy and the Reclaimer Medal
A recent report on Scanner healthiness suggests that by destroying Machina XM constructs and capturing Portals that were recovered from Machina control, Agents obtain part of the extraterrestrial Machina XM energy via their Scanner. Although there is not yet any robust way for the Scanner to distill and extract such energy for Agents’ use, the NIA would like to award a new medal “Reclaimer” according to the number of captures on Portals recovered from Machina control, starting today.

The 5-tiered Reclaimer Medal can be earned by capturing Portals when their previous owners was Machina:
